1. Free Outdoor Yoga at Colony Square: Wednesdays at 6pm
Come to Colony Square on Wednesday after work to enjoy free yoga outside in the Plaza, weather permitting. Yoga instructors rotate each week from nearby studios like Corepower yoga, Dancing dogs, & Exhale.
Parking is validated and you can stay and grab dinner after at the food hall or check out some of the new restaurants in the square. This event is every Wednesday through October.
2. Sweetwater 420 Festival: April 29th - May 1st
Sweet jams and great beer all weekend long. The most popular brewery in Atlanta hosts a festival in honor of its famous 420 pale ale every year in Atlanta. This annual music fest takes place downtown in Centennial Olympic Park for 3 days over the last weekend in April. This year the lineup features fan-favorite jam bands, String Cheese Incident and Umphrey’s Mcgee.
Sweetwater 420 Fest also includes a 5k race on Saturday morning that starts and ends in the park. And if you haven’t heard something that piques your interest just yet, there’s an artist’s market and several beer experience tents scattered throughout the park.
Tickets are required for this event but if you like Sweetwater beer and funky jam bands then you don’t want to miss out on this amazing Spring festival!

3. Virginia-Highland Porch Fest: Saturday, May 14th
Come celebrate Porch Fest in the ever-so-lovely Virginia-Highland neighborhood. This local community fest is free and it’s a blast for the whole family! Georgia is iconic for its cozy, adorable front porches - so what better way is there to celebrate and get to know your neighbors than hanging out in a fellow stranger’s front yard?!
Local bands get together and perform on front porches located all around Virginia-Highland. And homeowners in the neighborhood volunteer their porches for an hour-long set each. When you arrive, you’ll find a map of all the participating homes and bands and you can create your own personalized rock n’ roll tour!
Everyone is invited to sit on the front lawn and enjoy the entertainment. Lastly, for those of you in search of a pre-fest workout, a Rock n Run race is held in the morning and it follows the same route as the Porch Fest. See you all there!
4. Atlanta Beltline Lantern Parade: May 21st, 8pm - 11pm
Created and presented by Chantelle Rytter and the Krewe of the Grateful Gluttons, the 12th annual BeltLine Lantern Parade is back and making its very first appearance on the Westside Trail this year. People from all around Georgia join the parade festivities by designing and creating colorful, brightly-lit lanterns to walk along the BeltLine!
Music can be heard all along the route - everything ranging from marching brass bands to pop-up DJs helps to keep the energy high and get the party started. Prepare to be mesmerized by a magnificent display of creativity and artwork at this festive parade.
Want to participate this year? Simply light up a glowstick or put on a fun hat (or not) and join Atlanta to parade along the BeltLine for an unforgettable and magical night!
5. Candler Park Festival: June 3rd - 4th
Candler Park Music Festival takes place in Candler Park right outside the city. It’s the perfect setup for one of the best local festivals in town. There are spacious, open fields and hills and hills of green grass to listen to music and hang out on.
This park is easy to get to via the BeltLine and other Atlanta walkways. However, MARTA is SMARTA and recommended for transportation to and from this event - there’s a stop just a few minutes away from the park!
Candler Park fest has grown in recent years and as of today, requires a ticket - only $40 for both days! This year’s lineup includes some of the local favorites, the Disco Biscuits & Grace Potter. Finally, the festival would not be complete without an impressive artist’s market, a variety of specialty food trucks, and plenty of bars and drinks to hydrate and dehydrate you.
I’d highly recommend attending this event - it is the perfect fest to kickoff your Atlanta summer in style this year!
